The 4th ESID PID Care in Development (PIDCD) School took place from 11–13 December 2025 at the Briig Boutique Hotel in the beautiful coastal city of Split, Croatia. This educational event brought together healthcare professionals from across the globe with a shared commitment to improving the care of patients with Primary Immunodeficiencies (PIDs).
The primary aim of the PIDCD School is to support clinicians and laboratory specialists who work in environments where reference centers for PIDs are limited or absent. By strengthening knowledge, the school seeks to empower participants to better diagnose, manage, and advocate for patients with PIDs in their daily clinical practice.
This year’s edition welcomed 22 participants from 18 countries, reflecting the truly international reach of the ESID PID Care in Development initiative. The scientific program was designed to be both educational and highly interactive. It included expert faculty lectures covering key aspects of PID diagnosis and management, as well as participant-led case presentations, which demonstrated a remarkably high scientific and clinical level.
A highlight of the program was the interactive escape room–style game, in which participants worked collaboratively to solve complex PID diagnostic and management challenges. This innovative format encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and practical application of knowledge in a dynamic and engaging way.
In addition to the scientific sessions, the school strengthened professional connections through networking activities, including shared dinners and a guided sightseeing experience of Split. These moments provided valuable opportunities for informal discussion, exchange of experiences, and the building of long-lasting international collaborations.
The PIDCD School in Split was organized under the auspices of ESID by Boris Karanović, MD, PhD, Chair of the ESID PID Care in Development Working Party, and Darija Šperanda, MD, with the support of an experienced international and local faculty.
ESID would like to thank to all the faculty members, participants, and sponsors for their enthusiasm, active engagement, and contributions, which together ensured the success of this excellent educational event. The 4th ESID PIDCD School once again demonstrated the importance of targeted education and international collaboration in advancing PID care worldwide.
