ESID

Funds and Awards

ESID is committed to supporting education, collaboration, and professional development in the field of Primary Immunodeficiencies (PIDs). Through a range of fellowships, grants, and fee waivers, ESID aims to empower clinicians, researchers, and especially junior members to expand their expertise, build international networks, and contribute to improving patient care worldwide.

Below is an overview of the key opportunities currently offered by ESID.

ESID Fellowships Programme

The ESID Fellowships Programme offers two exciting opportunities for ESID members to expand their expertise, strengthen collaborations across institutions, and advance care and research in Primary Immunodeficiencies (PIDs):

ESID Observership Grant

The purpose of the ESID Observership Grant is participants to gain hands-on experience abroad by learning a specific laboratory or clinical skill to implement in your home institution. The duration can be from 2 weeks to 2 months. The financial support provided by ESID is €1200/month (€300/week) + €500 travel grant.

This grant is ideal for clinicians and scientists seeking short-term, focused training in a specialised technique or clinical practice, enabling immediate knowledge transfer back to their home institution.

ESID Research Fellowship

The ESID Research Fellowship is specifically for ESID Junior Members. The purpose of the fellowship is for participants to conduct a research project in the field of PIDs at a host institution abroad – an ideal step toward long-term collaboration and career growth. The duration of the fellowship can be from 4 to 6 months. The support provided by ESID is €1200/month + €500 travel grant.

This fellowship supports early-career researchers in developing independent research skills while fostering international collaboration and scientific advancement in the PID field.

ESID Biennial Meeting Registration Fee Waiver

In collaboration between the ESID Juniors and the PIDCD Working Parties, ESID offers a waiver of the registration fee for the ESID Biennial Meeting for Junior members from low and low-middle income countries.

This initiative aims to increase accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring that talented young professionals from all regions can participate in this key scientific event, share knowledge, and engage with the global PID community.

The call for applications will open in May 2026.

Travel Grants

ESID provides a limited number of travel grants to support participation in key educational and scientific events. These grants are designed to reduce financial barriers and encourage active involvement in the ESID community.

Summer School and PIDCD School

Travel grants are available for participants accepted to the ESID Summer School and the PIDCD School. These intensive training programmes provide high-quality education in Primary Immunodeficiencies, combining lectures, case discussions, and networking opportunities with leading experts in the field.

ESID Biennial Meeting 2026

In 2026, ESID will also offer travel grants to Junior members who submit abstracts to attend and present their work at the ESID Biennial Meeting 2026, taking place in Maastricht in October 2026.

These grants support early-career professionals in showcasing their research, gaining international exposure, and building valuable professional connections.

Through these fellowships, grants, and fee waivers, ESID continues to invest in the next generation of clinicians and researchers in Primary Immunodeficiencies. By facilitating access to training, research opportunities, and international collaboration, ESID helps ensure continued progress in the diagnosis, treatment, and understanding of PIDs worldwide.
