Over the past few months, ESID Education Committee (including Juniors and PIDCD working parties) has updated and refined the ESID Fellowships Program to ensure a smoother application and review process for all applicants.
We are pleased to announce the program is now open and continues to offer two distinct opportunities – Observership grant and Research fellowship – for ESID members to expand their expertise, strengthen inter-institutional collaboration, and advance research and care in Primary Immunodeficiencies (PIDs). ESID Observership Grant
Purpose: To provide financial support for ESID members wishing to travel abroad to acquire a specific skill – for example, a laboratory technique or a clinical practice – that can be implemented in their home institution upon return.
Duration: 2 weeks – 2 months
Financial Support: €1200/month (€300/week) + €500 travel grant
Key Eligibility Points:
- Be an ESID Member.
- Be accepted by a hosting institution for the proposed goals (arrangements must be made by the applicant).
- The observership must start after the application deadline.
- The proposed skill is not available for learning at the applicant’s home institution.
- The applicant demonstrates sufficient preparation and motivation to acquire the skill.
- The host institution offers high-quality training and performs the skill regularly.
- The home institution is committed to implementing the new skill post-fellowship.
- The applicant shows active engagement with ESID and/or other PID organizations.

- Curriculum Vitae with special highlight on list of publications/meeting communications of PID.
- Letter of support from the applicant’s head of department or supervisor. Please, note that a head of department or supervisor can provide a letter of support only to one candidate.
- Letter of invitation from the accepting institution.

ESID Research Fellowship
Purpose: To support ESID Junior Members conducting research in the field of PIDs at a host institution abroad. The fellowship may serve as a foundation for long-term collaboration or as a significant career development step for the fellow.
Duration: 4 – 6 months
Financial Support: €1200/month + €500 travel grant
Key Eligibility Points:
- Be an ESID Junior Member.
- Be accepted by a hosting institution for the proposed goals (arrangements must be made by the applicant).
- The fellowship must start after the application deadline.
- The candidate demonstrates a strong background and adequate theoretical/practical skills to execute the project.
- Prior research experience in PIDs is evidenced by publications or conference participation.
- A well-structured research proposal outlines the project’s objectives, feasibility, and the applicant’s specific role.
- The host institution provides appropriate supervision, facilities, and material resources.
- The applicant has a proven commitment to the PID field including ESID involvement.
