Free Genetic Testing Initiative for IEI Patients in Underrepresented Countries
The European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID) Genetics Working Party is delighted to announce an initiative to improve access to genetic testing for patients with suspected or clinically diagnosed Inborn Errors of Immunity (IEI) in underrepresented countries.
Inspired by discussions at the ESID 2024 meeting in Marseille, we are committed to reducing the gap in genetic testing accessibility and to supporting global health equity in the field of IEI. This initiative is sponsored by several ESID community laboratories offering free sequencing capacity. Depending on family history and the suspected diagnosis, NGS-based technology (e.g., exome sequencing) or a targeted approach (Sanger sequencing) will be applied.
Clinicians treating affected families can access this service by submitting completed Application Form through the link below. Our experts will review the applications for eligibility.
We warmly encourage families affected by IEI to take advantage of this opportunity for free genetic testing.
We extend an open invitation to other colleagues to join this effort. Your participation will help extend the reach of this initiative and ensure that more families receive genetic testing despite of geographic and/or economic barriers.
If your centre would like to participate in the initiative and can propose to do some free genetic tests, please reach out to us at esidadministration@esid.org.
