The 7th edition of the ESID Diagnostic Workshop took place from 15–17 September 2025 at the Schloss Reinach Hotel in Freiburg, Germany. The event was organized by ESID, under the guidance of Clara Franco Jarava, Chair of the ESID Education Working Party, and Professor Klaus Warnatz from the University of Freiburg.
Bringing together 25 participants from 20 countries across and beyond Europe, the three-day workshop provided over 15 hours of accredited education. The program combined faculty-led sessions, interactive case discussions, and networking opportunities, offering a unique platform for clinicians and laboratory physicians to advance their knowledge in primary immunodeficiency (PID) diagnostics.
The workshop featured eight faculty-led sessions covering a range of critical topics in PID. Highlights included sessions on agammaglobulinemia and class switch recombination deficiency, common variable immunodeficiency, interferonopathies, complement deficiencies, combined immunodeficiencies, and genetic disorders of immune regulation. An additional sponsored session focused on the use of artificial intelligence in diagnostics, was held as well, reflecting the workshop’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge developments into clinical practice.
All participants had the opportunity to prepare and present a clinical case, receiving mentorship and feedback from an esteemed faculty, including Prof. Dr. Mirjam van der Burg, Prof. Dr. Klaus Warnatz, Prof. Dr. Stephan Ehl, Dr. Kimberly Gilmour, Prof. Dr. Bodo Grimbacher, and Dr. Filomeen Haerynck. The discussions at the event were highly valuable, creating a collaborative atmosphere where practical problem-solving and real-world applications were central.
Beyond the scientific program, the workshop provided opportunities for networking and professional exchange. A social visit to Freiburg allowed participants to connect informally, strengthening international collaborations and friendships.
Feedback from both participants and faculty highlighted the high quality and value of the workshop. Attendees praised the interactive nature of the sessions, the expertise of the faculty, and the supportive environment that encouraged open discussion and mentorship.
The ESID Diagnostic Workshop 2025 demonstrated once again its role as a leading platform for education, innovation, and networking in the field of primary immunodeficiencies, leaving participants with new knowledge, insights, and professional connections that will impact their work.
ESID would like to thank to all faculty members for their dedication and expertise, to the participants for their active engagement and enthusiastic contributions, and to our sponsors for their invaluable support in making the workshop possible.
