Inborn Errors Working Party (IEWP)

ESID IEWP and EBMT cooperation

An update about the continued fruitful cooperation between ESID and EBMT

Dear colleagues, dear friends,

We all hope that you are in good health and that the pandemic has spared you and your loved ones.

Elections were held recently in ESID and EBMT to renew the chair of IEWP. Bénédicte and I were elected respectively at EBMT and ESID, so we will be your co-chairs for the next 4 years. It’s a great honor and we are very grateful for your trust.

We would first like to thank Arjan who has raised the bar very high. Important studies have been initiated and published these resent years thanks to the collaboration of all of you. New guidelines will be published soon and were developed through a large collaborative work. Excellent educational events took place despite the pandemic. In addition, Arjan has always kept the nice spirit that we all appreciate inside the WP with a balanced and collaborative management that was also highly appreciated by all of us.

Bénédicte and I are very happy to take over and co-lead the group, keep the spirit, try to push our knowledge forward, and encourage completion of studies. Sharing our awareness is also an important task.

Our professional lives have been profoundly disrupted, and our days have sometimes become a succession of Zoom… . The last fall meeting needed to be converted into a virtual one but we hope to have the opportunity to meet for the next IEWP conference that should take place in Milan from 24th to 26 th of September 2021 at Palazzo Stelline. We will need to decide in the next few weeks whether the event can be confirmed and we will let you know the decision.

In the meantime, 2 IEWP webinars will be organized by EBMT, on May 25th and June 22nd, 4pm CEST.

The first event will give us an update on diagnostics and treatment of severe combined immunodeficiency. The webinar in June will cover cellular therapy in inborn errors of metabolism. Both will have ample time for live Q and A, giving us a chance to at least interact. We hope to virtually meet you!

We wish to see you again as soon as possible, keep safe!

Kind regards,

Michael and Bénédicte
