Inborn Errors Working Party (IEWP)

IEWP Newsletter April 2018

by Arjan Lankester

Dear colleagues,

This week we have had the 44th annual EBMT meeting in Lisbon. It has been a very stimulating meeting and in fact a great ‘try-out’ for our ESID meeting in October this year.

The IEWP sessions were of high quality and very well attended. Presentations included, amongst others, an update on the position of gene therapy and stem cel transplantation (HSCT) in the treatment of ADA-SCID, and a report on the IEWP/SCETIDE study on HSCT outcome in patients with leukocyte adhesion deficiency. During our IEWP business meeting we discussed the ongoing studies that are being performed with support from the IEWP datamanagement and statistical team in the EBMT Leiden office and SCETIDE. I would like to use this opportunity to encourage you to contact me in case you have a study proposal. We will try to support you to bring studies forward.

In 2018 we will have several interesting scientific and educational IEWP events. Together with the EBMT Pediatric Disease and the Infectious Diseases working parties, IEWP will be involved in the organization of the joint meeting in Verona (June 7-9, 2018). The meeting has a very interesting and diverse scientific program in particular for juniors, fellows and nurses, and I would like to recommend you to visit the EBMT website for further details.

In September 28-30, 2018 we will host the annual IEWP meeting in Leiden. On the first  day the program will be fully dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the first successful stem cell transplantation in a SCeducationalID baby in Europe. The program will be available soon on the website. https://www.ebmt.org/ebmt/news/4th-iewp-annual-conference.

I look forward to work with you on our ongoing and new projects in this ‘Lisbon year’. Please contact me in case you have any questions and suggestions.

Best wishes

Arjan
