Inborn Errors Working Party (IEWP)

IEWP Newsletter August 2021

Dear colleagues and friends,

I hope all of you are still coping with this ongoing pandemic. At least vaccination gives us hope for some betterment.

As you may have heard already, the new version of the IEWP HSCT guidelines has just been published in Bone Marrow Transplantation:

EBMT/ESID inborn errors working party guidelines for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for inborn errors of immunity. Lankester AC, Albert MH, Booth C, Gennery AR, Güngör T, Hönig M, Morris EC, Moshous D, Neven B, Schulz A, Slatter M, Veys P; Inborn Errors Working Party of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation and the European Society for Immune Deficiencies, and European Reference Network on Rare Primary Immunodeficiency Autoinflammatory Autoimmune diseases (RITA). Bone Marrow Transplant. 2021 Jul 5. doi: 10.1038/s41409-021-01378-8.

I would especially like to thank all authors, who spent a lot of time on this over the last two years, for this important achievement!

Since our last newsletter, one more collaborative study on behalf of IEWP has also been published:

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in leukocyte adhesion deficiency type I and III. Bakhtiar S, Salzmann-Manrique E, Blok HJ, Eikema DJ, Hazelaar S, Ayas M, Toren A, Goldstein G, Moshous D, Locatelli F, Merli P, Michel G, Öztürk G, Schulz A, Heilmann C, Ifversen M, Wynn RF, Aleinikova O, Bertrand Y, Tbakhi A, Veys P, Karakukcu M, Kupesiz A, Ghavamzadeh A, Handgretinger R, Unal E, Perez-Martinez A, Gokce M, Porta F, Aksu T, Karasu G, Badell I, Ljungman P, Skorobogatova E, Yesilipek A, Zuckerman T, Bredius RRG, Stepensky P, Shadur B, Slatter M, Gennery AR, Albert MH, Bader P, Lankester A. Blood Adv. 2021 Jan 12;5(1):262-273. doi: 10.1182/bloodadvances.2020002185.

Many of you contribute to these studies, and I would really like to thank you all for your input and effort. It is our aim to continue this type of collaborative studies, supported by the ESID, EBMT and SCETIDE registries, as well as other partners worldwide, in order to better understand the best treatment approaches for these rare IEI.

Looking ahead, we shall finally meet in-person again at the annual IEWP meeting, held in Milano, 24th -26th September. I am much looking forward to critical scientific discussions, activity reports, international exchange and the important small talk we have all been missing so badly. For program and registration details please look at the EBMT website.

Best wishes

Michael Albert, chair IEWP
