IEWP Newsletter - March 2015

By Andy Gennery

Dear Colleagues,

Since I last wrote in summer 2014, we have had a busy year.

We had an extremely successful Autumn meeting in Munich, wonderfully organized and hosted by Michael Albert, and were honored that Alain Fischer was able to join us and present the keynote lecture. As ever, the science and the debate was lively, and an evening in a Bavarian Bierkeller and evening dinner at BMW World were memorable social highlights.

A few weekends later we met in Prague, as part of the extremely successful ESID Biennial meeting, followed by our first ever Thymic Workshop, co-organised by Graham Davies and Georg Hollander in London.

We next meet in Istanbul at the EBMT Spring meeting. Isabelle Meyts is hosting a workshop on 'How To Transplant A Patient With Primary Immunodeficiency' – contact to register or for further details. Our Autumn meeting this year is in Seville, Spain in October – the programme is still under construction!

We are continuing to present and publish the results of our studies. Recent publications include:

  • Wehr C, et al. Multicenter experience in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in 25 patients with common variable immunodeficiency. J Allergy Clin Immunol (in press)
  • Aydin SE, et al. DOCK8deficiency: clinical and immunological phenotype and treatment options. J Clin Immunol (in press)

Congratulations in particular to the junior and senior authors – multicenter IEWP studies take considerable effort to put together (I know!), but these are excellent studies.

We will be conducting a survey on longterm outcome of HSCT for SCID > 20 years in the coming months – details to follow.

Finally, ESID are embarking on an exciting project with the Journal of Clinical Immunology to publish ‘State of the Art’ reviews, endorsed by ESID – do contact me or other board members if you have ideas for a topic.

With Best Wishes and I look forward to seeing you in the near future
