By María Rodrigo Riestra

In February 2022 I started my internship in Isabelle Meyts’ group at KU Leuven. It was my great pleasure to spend 5 months in this lab under the supervision of Dr Bethany Pillay. I learned a wide range of immunology lab techniques, I specialized further in the fascinating domain of inborn errors of immunity, and I met numerous PhD students and scientists working in the field.

With the help of the senior postdocs in the lab, I validated POLD3K373T mutation as a novel cause of severe combined immunodeficiency. In the following pages I added a manuscript gathering the results I obtained during my fellowship, which we wish to submit before the end of the year. I am also very excited to have the opportunity to present my data at the ESID biennial meeting 2022 in Gothenburg, during an oral presentation.

Overall, it was a very positive experience which confirmed my wish to do a PhD in translational immunology; I am very thankful to the ESID for this great opportunity.
