Welcome to the Clinical Working Party!

The ESID Clinical Working Party aims to:

  1. To combine basic and clinical research and clinical expertise to provide best practice guidance and highlight areas for future research.
  2. To promote professional development through a range of educational opportunities.
  3. To support developing the next generation of Clinical Immunologists.
We are currently doing this through:
  1. Establishing a program for best-practice guideline publication based on gaps in the current literature, working with ERN RITA, international PID organisations, nursing colleagues through INGID and patients though IPOPI.
  2. Coordinating the ESID monthly Grand Round series, ensuring that these are easily accessible and focused on topics relevant to the ESID membership.
  3. Promoting clinical research focused on long term outcome data for specific PID, working collaboratively with other ESID Working Parties.
  4. Working with the Juniors Working Party to involve trainees to work alongside experts in the field to prepare guidelines and manuscripts, undertake clinical research and arrange seminars.

How to participate?

The clinical WP regularly meets during the biennial ESID meetings to highlight current activities. Any ESID member attend or can contact the ESID CWP Chair directly by email to suggest proposed activities.

The CWP circulates surveys to understand the needs and preferences of the ESID membership, for example for Grand Round and Guidelines topics. Your participation in responding to these shapes the future work of the CWP.

The CWP intermittently has calls for Juniors to apply to participate in CWP activites.

Guidelines:

To assist the development of high quality and broadly applicable ESID guidelines, the CWP has agreed a standardised process. All clinical guidelines endorsed by the ESID CWP will be required to follow this process, unless they were already well developed in conjunction with the CWP before 2022. The methodology outlined here is aligned with the ERN-RITA guideline process to enable adoption of clinical guidelines for PID across ESID and ERN-RITA.

See here for full details about the process of Guideline Development.

The CWP is currently undertaking a scoping review of current published guidelines to inform future guideline planning. A survey will be circulated to the ESID membership later in the year to understand your views about which guidelines to prioritise over the next few years. If you would like to propose a new guideline topic please contact the chair of the CWP by e-mail (Prof. Siobhán Burns, [email protected]).
