Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends,

This was supposed to be a straightforward business message to notify you of a change in the management of our society. However, the war in Ukraine leaves no one untouched and makes the ESID office change a secondary event. We are deeply saddened by these developments.

We pledge our support to our affected members, partner organisations, PID patients, nurses and friends in Ukraine. ESID has decided to provide emergency fellowship support to Ukrainian colleagues whose career is disrupted by the war and who try to pursue their work, maybe temporarily, in an accepting European institution. Please reach out to with your proposal including CV, project, budget proposal and letter of commitment. We will follow-up shortly with new communications.

ESID office changes

During ESID’s strategic meeting at the beginning of my presidency, it became clear that we needed to shift gears and even leave the comfortable tracks we had been on since 2009, with KENES functioning both as our congress organizer as well as our association manager. We felt it was necessary to strive to an independent « office » to have more impact in issues that matter for the patients, to be more at the forefront of education and research dissemination, to make the ESID registry even better, and to be able to support in more ways the membership. Fabio Candotti, your president-elect, myself and the board have worked hard on this process and finally, on the 7th of February, we have welcomed Ms Hila Edry as our Executive Director. Transiting all of ESID’s content is a major undertaking, but it is the right leap at the right time. ESID will emerge from this transition as an invigorated and modern society, working for all of us. In the meantime, during this transition, we hope we can count on your understanding and patience while we close the gaps and form our very first ESID office. At the same time, we want to thank Kenes for the many years of collaboration in the Society management.

Other announcements

We are available to answer any questions you may have and we already look forward to seeing you all in person at the 2022 Gothenburg meeting! In the meantime, don’t forget to renew your membership and look out for the 2026 call for bids and the next ESID elections!

ESID President
