LOCUM CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRIC IMMUNOLOGY
Applications are invited for a 10 PA Locum Consultant in Paediatric Immunology post based at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. This exciting opportunity is for a 12 month fixed term appointment, commencing in March 2016. Applications will also be considered from those wishing to work part time or on a job share basis.
The Department of Immunology aims to provide a world class diagnostic and treatment service for children with primary and secondary Immunodeficiency disorders, including the development of novel therapies through an active translational research programme. It hosts one of two National Specialist Commissioning Group (NSCG) services for severe primary immunodeficiency disorders in the UK and also receives international referrals for treatment of these disorders. The department deals with approximately 3,500 patient episodes per year. Referrals to the department are received from the Southern half of England and also Wales for severe immune deficiencies that are amenable to bone marrow transplant, gene therapy or thymus transplant. A supra-regional service for investigation and treatment of all other primary immune deficiencies is also provided.
Inpatients are treated on a shared Immunology/Infectious Diseases ward with Hepa-filtered, air flow controlled cubicles. This ward has close links and shared facilities with the adjacent Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) ward. There are close working relationships between the Immunology, Infectious Diseases and BMT clinical teams.
The Immunology Consultant team comprises of 2.5 WTE consultants, one of which this post will be covering, and 0.5WTE senior academic staff members. There is 1 Senior Immunology Fellow, 6 Specialist Registrar middle grade doctors, and 1 Senior House Officer that work across patients in Immunology, Infectious Diseases and BMT. There are also 5 Clinical Nurse Specialists within the Immunology team.
This post involves Monday-Thursday on call (non-resident) for Immunology patients when attending, and currently involves a 1:8 weekend on call (non-resident) rota which covers Immunology and BMT patients. Attendance at the hospital on weekends is expected when on call.
Applicants are expected to be MRCHP/MRCHPCH qualified, and have extensive experience in general paediatrics as well as evidence of experience in Immunology and Infectious Diseases.
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust is a postgraduate teaching hospital, linked with the Institute of Child Health (ICH). The Trust had 368 beds and provides a comprehensive range of paediatric specialties for tertiary level care. The patient population consists of over 20,000 inpatients per annum and 84,000 outpatients.

The basic salary range for this post is £75,249 to £101,451 per annum plus £2,162 per annum London Weighting.
