IEWP Newsletter - July 2017

By Arjan Lankester

Dear colleagues,

In recent months, IEWP has been actively involved in several scientific meetings. At the annual EBMT meeting (Marseille, March 26-29), IEWP presented its activities during the business meeting, and scientific presentations were given in two very well attended sessions during the Pediatric Day. Invited lectures included presentations on New treatment approaches in HLH, HSCT in monogenic autoimmune diseases, HSCT for SCID in the 21st century, and HSCT for adult ALD ( www.ebmt2017.org).

For the first time, IEWP and the Pediatric Diseases WP (PDWP) of EBMT collaborated in the organisation of a very successful training course for paediatricians and paediatric nurses on HSCT in children and adolescents (Kopenhagen, Denmark, June 8-10). With 130 participants, a broad spectrum of topics was covered by faculty members of IEWP and PDWP, both in lectures and interactive sessions. It is our intention to proceed with these joint educational meetings in the coming years.

As a joint initiative, members of CWP, IEWP and I-BFM had a first meeting on the topic PID and malignancy (June 20, Leiden, The Netherlands; see also CWP session). Various aspects were discussed ranging from molecular aspects and pathology to clinical management. This joint activity will be continued with the aim to provide recommendations for diagnosis, management and further studies.

In September, during the ESID meeting in Edinburgh, we hope to see you during the IEWP session  which is scheduled on Thursday morning, and will include a mix of selected abstracts and invited lectures.

Finally, we look forward to our annual autumn meeting which will this year take place in Newcastle (November 3-5). The first day will be a joint meeting of IEWP and the Autoimmune diseases WP of EBMT, and includes an educational morning session and a special keynote lecture by prof Mario Abinun. The final program will be available soon. For further info on our meetings or other IEWP activities please contact us ([email protected]/[email protected]).

Hope to see you at our meetings and wishing you all happy holidays,

Arjan Lankester
